About the rebate program
As part of Northfield’s Climate Action Plan, the City is encouraging residents to make their homes more energy efficient by upgrading insulation, appliances, and lighting with Xcel Energy’s rebate program.
This program is a part of Northfield’s Climate Action Plan, which aims to make Northfield carbon neutral by 2040 and is funded by the Carbon Reduction Fund.
Rebate amount
Xcel Energy offers rebates for household energy efficiency upgrades. The City will match 50% of Xcel Energy rebate up to $2,500 for qualifying projects.
Rebates are processed quarterly and checks are sent out in April, July, October and January (for applications October through December of prior year).
Funding for rebates are available on a first come first serve basis until funds are depleted.
Eligibility
The City of Northfield will match 50% of dollar amount of these rebates for households who earn up to 80% of the Dakota County annual median income ($89,400 for a family of four).

Eligible upgrades
Eligible upgrades include energy efficient models of:
- Furnaces
- Air conditioners
- Water heaters
- Air sealing
- Insulation
- Heat pumps
Thermostats are not eligible for a city rebate. The City does not match installer or manufacturer rebates.
Applying for the rebate
You will need to submit a copy of each Xcel Energy rebate check and a W-9 (for tax purposes).
