Community Action Center of Northfield
The Community Action Center of Northfield’s mission is to promote a healthy, caring and just community for all people through resources, advocacy and volunteer effort. They provide services to our neighbors in need and make a difference in the lives of families and individuals. They assist with basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, and provide crisis support, transportation, and services designed to facilitate neighbors helping neighbors.
Dakota County CDA is a local government agency whose mission is to improve the lives of Dakota County residents through affordable housing and community development. The CDA administers over 30 different programs and is one of the largest housing and community development program providers in the state.
The Greater Minnesota Housing Fund advances affordable housing in Greater Minnesota by directly funding affordable housing projects; providing technical support; linking projects with financial resources; and securing additional resources for affordable housing. GMHF funds are also used to finance the purchase, rehabilitation or new construction of affordable single-family homes and rental units and provide training and counseling for first-time homebuyers through local community organizations.
Lloyd Management is a management company that works closely with both the HRA and Three Rivers Community Action to provide our residents with the best service possible. They offer 24-hour management and maintenance personnel to create a worry-free environment for the resident and the neighborhood.
The Minnesota Home Ownership Center helps in all aspects of homeownership preparation and foreclosure prevention. They offer extensive home help services including first-time home buyer assistance, foreclosure process assistance and home mortgage assistance.
Rice County Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1991 and has built several homes in Northfield. The HRA has assisted Habitat by providing free or reduced lots and permits. Now, the partnership has expanded to include rehab opportunities for income qualified homeowners.
The primary purpose of the Rice County HRA is to administer the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program. In addition to Section 8, the Housing Office offers other programs geared towards home ownership and improving housing opportunities in Rice County.
Three Rivers Community Action, Inc. assists communities, families and individuals with a wide array of housing development activities, including building, preserving and owning rental housing, assisting people with homeownership needs and providing homeowners with resources for improving their homes. They have partnered with the Northfield HRA to build mixed income housing developments, assist homeowners with home improvements, rehab foreclosed homes for sale to income-qualified households, and build new rental units for larger households.
U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD)
HUD’s mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes; utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination, and transform the way HUD does business.
